How to clip on twitch

On Twitch, clips are small, 30-second sections of video taken from streams that you are watching. They can be created by anyone watching a live or archived stream.

Once you have made your clip, you can share it to social media. The clip will also contain a link to the original stream so people can see where the clip originated from.

The clip function will automatically select the 25 seconds before where in the stream you have clicked, plus the first 5 second period after.

What is the point of making clips?

It is a good way to increase the risk and popularity of your favorite Twitch streamer. Any clips made of their videos will be publicly viewable. This is because they will save automatically to the clips section on their channel.

Clips allow you to share amazing or interesting moments of a stream with your friends. This saves them the hassle of having to watch the whole stream or find a specific point in it to know what you are referring to.

Your Twitch ID will appear at the top of any clips you make. This means that you could garner popularity if you consistently upload clips of other streamers.

Clips make it easier for people to filter through videos. The clips page contains many filters to apply such as the date of posting and the type of game being played.

Making clips of streams means that you can easily edit and share highlights of streams to social media.

If you are in the middle of building up your following, this can be a great way to attract a wider audience. Viewers interacting with your streams by creating clips will also boost your popularity.

How to clip on a computer

You should first open up a Twitch stream. You should have the stream open that you wish to make a clip from. You can use the search bar at the top to find a specific video or streamer.

In the bottom right corner of the screen, you will see a small icon that looks like a clapperboard for a movie. This is the clip icon and is the second in from the left. Click on this, or use the keyboard shortcut Alt + X on Windows or Option + X on MacOS.

This will open up a new tab on your internet browser. This will select a 90-second section of the stream. Select the portion of the stream that you wish to make into a clip.

This can be anywhere between 5 and 60 seconds long. Trim it using the sliders at either end to ensure just the section you wish to clip is highlighted.

At this point, you should be able to give your clip a title. This is necessary if you wish to publish and share the clip.

Once you are happy with the title and duration of the clip, click the publish button. This will create your clip as a little encapsulated video that can be shared wherever you like.

There will also be options to export and download your clip-on screen. If you wish to perform either of these actions, simply click the corresponding button.
